At the outset Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is a new story and something never really told in Bollywood. It is linear in form and nothing extra-ordinary. It does not even have a clear climax. But the director does not attempt to make it extraordinary either. The best part of Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is that it is told in the shortest and most compact way that the director could have. He cuts out everything that might have looked excessive. MAMK is a new way, in Bollywood, of telling emotions. And doing it pretty well for that matter!

MAMK is about a lovely girl called Raina (Kareena Kapoor), an orphan who grows up in Dalhousie, who finds her dream man in Samir Khanna (Salman Khan). Things, however, change after marriage as Samir loses his job and fails to find another job as no one is willing to give him a second chance. The effervescent guy suddenly becomes dull. And his friend finally convinces him to leave the city and try his luck at another place where he can get back what he deserves. He decides to go to Singapore and books his wife’s ticket to India but she decides otherwise and stays back in Melbourne. Now all those sequences of how the couple falls apart would have probably taken a whole film in regular Bollywood fare. But in MAMK, the film just begins there. All this is over in 30 minutes flat. FAST!

As Mrs Khanna picks her up, she finds friends and there is also a likely love story – as expected. She meets Akash (Sohail Khan). He helps her tide over lonely times while falling in love with her. He never confesses it though fearing he would lose her as a friend too. And as stated earlier, there is no climax to the story; it just ends like any part of our regular lives.

However, in this short and uneventful journey there are moments which are delightful. And that is what makes the journey so likeable. Scenes through which the story has been told are well written and the dialogues back the script. Performances by all the actors work as a cherry on top. For once Salman carries off a serious role without any of his trademark attempts to make things funny. Here is just Samir Khanna and not an ounce of ‘The Salman Khan’. Kareena plays a simple girl, minus her Kambakkht Ishq hangover and Sohail Khan spices it up with his humour. For that matter even Preity Zinta’s special appearance makes for a nice change.

Main Aurr Mrs Khanna is a one-time watch for its ‘cuteness’ factor. It is just a nice short film for people who want to experience some emotions and also a good number of smiles for less than two hours. But, of course, you have options this week in case you are looking for laughter rather than smiles.
